NoticeClear is an independent information site about road traffic penalties in New Zealand. It is not a government service, it is not connected to NZTA, NZ Police or any court, and it does not give legal advice.
What this is
An information site, and nothing more than that
It answers one narrow set of questions about New Zealand road traffic penalties, from the instruments those penalties are actually in.
NoticeClear exists because the answer to “what does this ticket cost me” is genuinely findable in the legislation, and almost nowhere else is it set out with the provision attached. The figures on this site are not summarised from other sites. They are transcribed from the Land Transport Act 1998 and the Land Transport (Offences and Penalties) Regulations 1999, each with the section or schedule it came from, and re-checked against those instruments rather than against a consensus.
It is not a government service. It is not connected to NZTA, NZ Police, the Ministry of Justice or any court, and it does not act for anybody. It does not give legal advice, and it is not a substitute for asking the authority named on your notice.
How it works
Where the figures come from, and how they get onto the page
The short version: a number on this site is either read out of an instrument or it is not on the site.
- Every figure is transcribed from a primary sourceThe Act and the Regulations, as consolidated on the dates stated under each table. Not from another site, not from a summary, and not from memory.
- Nothing is typed twiceThe pages do not contain amounts. They interpolate them from one payload, so a figure cannot be right in a table and wrong in a sentence two sections down.
- The calculators are the same rule, assertedWhat a calculator computes in your browser is checked against the engine at build time, at every value it can produce. If the two ever disagreed, the site would not build.
- An absence is published as an answerWhere the law does not set something — a speed tolerance, a payment deadline — this site says so with the search that established it, instead of quietly filling the gap.

Limits
What this site cannot do, and will not pretend to
These are not disclaimers bolted onto the bottom of a page. They are the reason several things you might expect to find here are deliberately absent.
It cannot look anything up
There is no lookup form on this site and never will be. It asks for no driver licence number, no notice reference, no date of birth and no plate, and it holds no records of any kind — so it could not check your position even if you sent one.
It cannot advise on your case
This is information, not legal advice. What a court or an enforcement officer will do in a particular matter is not something this site or any other can honestly predict.
It will not state a tolerance
New Zealand legislates none. Any figure circulating for one is enforcement practice, and this site will not present practice as law — so no percentage and no km/h figure for a tolerance appears anywhere on it.
It will not state a payment deadline
The general payment period is set outside this site’s sources. Your notice states yours, and that is the only answer available here.
Money
How this site is paid for
There is no advertising on this site, no affiliate link, no sponsored placement and no lead form. Nothing on it is written to send you anywhere in particular, and there is nothing for it to sell you — which is also why it is comfortable telling you that the answer to a question is on a piece of paper you already have.
It is published by Desymphony. If that changes, this page changes with it.
